Welcome. My name is Surya Wohl and I've been a simple collector and connoisseur of some of the fine and rare wines of the World for decades. In 2011, my life took some sudden and significant change recently resulting in the need to downsize in many areas of my life. In light of this I decided to sell off 23 bottles of difficult to impossible to find collectible wine from my private collection that I simply never arrived at the occasion to drink. I constructed this website overnight to complement any flyer or listing I put up locally and on Craig's List, and to give interested parties more in-depth information about what I have available.
Of course this opportunity is only for those 21 years or older and being that I do not possess a liquor license, the bottles are offered for their rare antique collector value, not for the contents within the bottles. Though I cellared them impeccably and the same was true from anyone I purchased them from, since I am not selling the contents of the bottle (as I can not by law), I will not guarantee their contents. None are easily or readily available for purchase and for most this will be the only opportunity you will have to obtain one.
While I have had the pleasure of sampling many great wines of all types, the ones I favored and then cellared, for the most part, are contemplative, meditative wines, that are complex and best enjoyed with close friends by a nice fire in the evening discussing and debating dreams, goals, aspirations, philosophy and the heavenly things of this world and beyond. As you will see, quite a number are sweet "dessert" wines, which to me really means concentrated wines that are meant to be sipped slowly and relished as they carry one away.
The highlights of the collection in terms of rarity are the unique bottle of 1900 C.F. Eccardt Scharzhofberger Riesling from Kreuznach in the Rheinland of Germany and the 1905 C.da Silva Vintage Rare Douro Port. Both I fancied opening at one of my daughter's weddings, if such an event would ever take place and I was still around to participate in it. These are the only two bottles I won't be pricing, but will entertain serious offers on.
I researched these bottles as best I could and in some cases extrapolated quite a bit on the wines and their styles. Each write-up is different and it is my hope that you enjoy what is written and maybe even learn something. Wine is fun when enjoyed with people you like to be around. I never drank it for the effects of its alcohol content, which actually I would have like to have done without, but rather for the unique experience and story that each bottle tells of its terroir and winemaker. I wasn't one to drink alone, except for the occasional pleasure of taking days to sip and enjoy a bottle like an older one from Chateau D'Yquem. Rather I have always loved inviting and entertaining friends, cooking them great veggie food and enjoying a few different bottles in the process to enhance the meal and experience. When the evening could go late into the night, ending only after hours of stimulating discussion out on my deck, around the fire pit, overlooking and listening to the ocean waves of MAA Pacifica, all the better!
Well, 'nuff said. Let me know your interest by calling me on my cell at 760-889-1276 or writing me at [email protected]
